Aggravated murder is the worst of the worst when it comes to murder. A conviction requires a showing of purposeful prior calculation and design before killing someone. Additionally, an offense called felony murder is included in this statute, which is where someone:
"...purposefully kills another person while attempting to commit, is fleeing from, or is in the commission of another felony such as kidnapping, rape, aggravated arson, arson, aggravated robbery, robbery, aggravated burglary, burglary, trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, terrorism, or escape."
Unlawful termination of another's pregnancy is included in this statute as well. For this crime, think of someone waiting until the victim is alone, then purposefully poisoning the victim's drink—resulting in the victim's death.
A conviction of this crime is punishable by the death penalty or life in prison.
